KISS – Keep It Simple, Stupid. My graphics teacher at high school was frequently giving me this lecture. Turns out it wasn’t frequent enough. Recently I have been looking at photo styles that I like, of course these are not simple photos, that’d be too easy. They’re also not photos I can just take easily with the gear I already own. Cue a little bit of Wikipedia, some Photo Guy quizzing and a speedy trip to Jonathon’s Photo Warehouse (oh, and a little bit of the foldy stuff). And I am now the uneducated owner of an ND4 filter and I intend to take some awesome motion blur water photos (like every other idiot). These awesome photos still allude me at the moment, but I believe that is what learning is all about.

In order to experiment with this new toy I dragged Photo Guy out for a little excursion to Tunnel Beach, a beautifully rugged little beach just south of Dunedin City. If you enjoy watching waves crash into shear sandstone cliffs (I do) you could sit out here for ages (I did, and don’t have many photos because of it). As a very special treat, I was let loose with Photo Guy’s new camera. I didn’t think I would ever say it about a camera, but it is a joy. It feels good, it sounds good and when driven correctly takes great photos. I had to hand the camera back reasonably quickly as jealousy is not a becoming trait. I shall not covet my accomplice’s camera.
